You Have Time

After freeing ourselves from an addiction or behavior that no longer serves us, like an old friend, we can surprise ourselves by missing these familiar patterns. It can be counter productive, because one would think we should be pulled by our greater good. However, we are creatures of habit, and old places, friends, even patterns of behavior...gives us comfort like a warm blanket. We often learn these habits subconsciously from others who don't lead the most productive life styles. Addictions are usually a way for us to cope or avoid intense emotion, so when we decide to make healthier decisions, it will be a challenging time of uncomfortable feelings until we are ready to release it. As we have patience and compassion with ourselves, endure the difficulty, ask for support, and realize that it takes TIME to develop habits, it becomes easier to employ new positive choices when we have a strong desire to fall off the wagon. It's a challenge we can confidently handle, if we focus on the results we want in our lives. Take comfort in knowing that the yearning for the old patterns will disappear as we work through the process and in time we will naturally reach for the good, forming the basis of the new. Our hearts, minds, and body will adapt to change if we keep our vision of something new in clear sight.
